The Association of Software Companies of India (ITSMA), the Basque telecommunications cluster GAIA and JAUSAS are the sponsors of the Project which also has the support from various Indian and Spanish business organisations. The Institute will be presided by Surbhi Sharma, Director of ITSMA and Spanish Honorary Consul in Bangalore, and Jokin Garatea, Internationalization Director of GAIA. Roser Ràfols, partner of JAUSAS, will be the Secretary General.
The Institute has been operational since January 2009 and was officially presented on 7th January during the closure of the IV Indo-Spanish Conference on Technology. Mª Teresa Fernández de la Vega, Vice-president of the Spanish Government, attended the official announcement. It is also worth mentioning that the Institute has the support of ICEX and CDTI.
The institution's first project will be to develop a wireless network to access the Internet for the 15,000 residents in a semi-rural region near Bangalore. Presently, the community has no access to even a basic technology infrastructure.
