27/03/2009

Sectors and Practice Areas: Information technology and telecommunications

JAUSAS is a promotor member of the Indo-Spanish Chamber of Technology together with the basque telecommunications cluster Gaia and the Association of Indian software companies (ITSMA). The Project, by the name of Scutum, is a joint Indo-Spanish initiative, co-financed by the CDTI, for the development and manufacture of advanced non-toxic insecticide textiles to prevent tropical diseases resulting from mosquito bites.

The first stage of he Project will be to manufacture protective sheets against night time mosquito bites from those mosquitoes that cause tropical diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, filariasis or schistosomiasis resulting in the death of millions of people every year.

JAUSAS, Gaia and Innovatec Sensitization and Communication (with the expertise in the development of advanced textiles as well as sensorized and communication systems for the medical sector) are the organizations taking part in SCUTUM, together with the Indian company Sai Lakshmi Industries and the Fundación Vicente Ferrer NGO.

The co-operation between Spain and India will enable the sharing of knowledge and resources for mass production of these advanced products for both humanitarian and commercial use. The co-operation will allow to set up benchmarks for the validation of the efficacy of these manufactured materials in the real conditions of use and to deploy the technology and transfer of expertise for it to be manufactured locally.

The Indo-Spanish Chamber of Technology is a private initiative that was launched in 2009 to promote bilateral technologic projects between India and Spain and gets support from a group of multidisciplinary professionals belonging to various bodies and institutions with extensive experience in the area of technological development and international co-operation.
